School pastoral care at the Catholic secondary school in Marl

Dear students, dear parents and guardians,

My name is Laura-Christin Kapellner and I am a school chaplain at three secondary schools in Marl.

Since the 2020/2021 school year, I have also been working at the Catholic secondary school and organize and celebrate the church services together with the teachers and students.

I am part of the pastoral team of the parish of Saint Edith Stein in Marl and I also grew up in this parish. After my studies and training as a pastoral assistant in Paderborn and Bocholt, I was given the opportunity to establish myself professionally in Marl. In my free time I like to sew, read and cook and on vacation I like to get to know new places.

Two quotes shape my pastoral work in schools. Firstly, "The shortest definition of religion is interruption!" (JBMetz) and secondly, "Just talking about it is a great relief." I would like to put these two quotes into practice in my work.

“Just talking about it is a huge relief.”

I would like to give teachers and students the opportunity to experience space and time for themselves as people, alongside the school system, the focus on performance and the pressures of society, and that a break from everyday school life can be good for the soul, to simply look at yourself and your needs. I have also experienced in recent years how beneficial it is when things are addressed that otherwise only circle around in your head. It can be a relief to shed light on a problem or situation with someone outside of the school. This is possible in a pastoral conversation. Now I am looking forward to getting to know the students and the staff of the Catholic Secondary School.
